In an interaction with journalists on Sunday, August 25, Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated, “The NPP views the media as a crucial partner in national development… We’re partners with you, and the partnership I will continue to keep, as the new leader of the NPP.”

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the NPP’s dedication to protecting media freedom, saying, “The NPP will continue to partner with the media and ensure media freedom. We’re committed to deepening media freedom.”

This commitment is in line with the party’s philosophy of expanding the frontiers of democratic governance in Ghana.

In addition, Dr. Bawumia pledged to ensure the passage of the Broadcasting Bill before the 8th Parliament dissolves.

He stated, “We will pass and fully implement the Broadcasting Bill before the final session of Parliament this year to better safeguard media freedoms and pluralism.”

This move is aimed at further protecting the rights of journalists and promoting a free and independent press.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia assured journalists that the government is committed to resourcing the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme to continue enhancing the knowledge and skills of journalists.

He said, “We will further resource the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme to continue enhancing the knowledge and skills of journalists.”

Dr. Bawumia’s comments come as a reassurance to the media and the public, emphasizing the NPP’s dedication to promoting a free and independent press.

His pledge to pass the Broadcasting Bill and resource the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme demonstrates the party’s commitment to safeguarding media freedom and promoting quality journalism in Ghana.
