A nurse with the Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) Hospital at Nsuta in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region has died of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
According to sources, the nurse was among five other persons who currently tested positive for the disease in the municipality.
The death of the nurse has led to the immediate closure of the GMC Hospital, and all staff members have been asked to undergo self-isolation for Covid-19 test to be conducted on them.
A statement issued by the company entreated all to remain calm as every effort was being made to stem the spread of the virus within the Nsuta community.
“The deadly coronavirus has finally found its way on the doorstep of GMC. Therefore, the need to strictly adhere to the outlined protective protocols to safeguard us against the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be over-emphasized,” it added.
It indicated that the test result of the deceased received by the company confirmed Covid-19 infection.
“Management will continue to monitor the situation and keep the entire workforce informed about developments and various measures that will be taken,” the statement said.
The statement called on the workers to continue to maintain social distancing at all times, wash their hands with soap frequently, apply hand sanitizer when they had to and wear their face masks always.
