Residents of Offinso Old Town in the Ashanti Region have renewed calls for the urgent installation of street lights, road signs and proper road markings on the Offinso–Abofuor highway following a recent fatal accident.
The appeal comes after a tragic crash on the main bridge linking Ahenkro and Offinso, where a trailer rammed into a mini truck, killing three people.
In interviews with the DAILY GUIDE on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, residents attributed the recurring accidents on the stretch to poor visibility caused by the absence of street lighting, warning signs and road markings, particularly from Ahenkro to Offinso Old Town.
They noted that the situation is especially dangerous around the Offin River area, which they described as persistently dark and accident-prone.
“That particular area where the Offin River is located always records serious accidents, mainly because the place is too dark,” said Mr. Oteng, a commercial driver who uses the route frequently.
“We believe that the installation of street lights, along with clear road signs and markings, will greatly improve visibility and help reduce accidents,” he added.
The residents are therefore calling on the relevant authorities, especially the Ghana Highway Authority, to take urgent action to improve safety on the highway and avert further loss of lives.
