Ghana’s High Commissioner to India, Michael Aaron Oquaye Jnr, over the weekend paid a courtesy visit to the Taifa Polyclinic, where he donated some pharmaceutical products valued at GH?10,000.

In addition to the products were some wheel chairs, walking aids and assorted food items.

He was accompanied by his wife, Maureen Oquaye, and a philanthropist, Akweley Plahar Aryee, who provided the wheel chairs.

He indicated that the donation was made in order to sustain a family legacy which was started by his father, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency, who is currently the Speaker of Parliament.

“This clinic has a special place in my heart because this was actually built by my father when he was here, a few years ago. And most of the funds were from family coffers and we saw the family money being pulled out,” he added.

The Senior Medical Officer of the Taifa Polyclinic, Dr. Joseph Tuffour, who was appreciative of the gesture, entreated the high commissioner to do more by ensuring that the infrastructural design of the hospital is completed.

When completed, the clinic will have an extension of male and female wards, a theatre and a children’s ward.

The clinic, which is the only fully fledged government health facility in the area, is not easily accessible due to poor road network.

He, therefore, appealed to the government to help fix the bad road from the main Taifa station to the polyclinic which is in a very bad state, stressing that when emergency and major referrals are made, the deplorable nature of the road delays such emergency referrals which could cost human lives.

Dr. Tuffour added that the absence of the theatre has forced the clinic to refer emergency maternity cases which require surgical intervention to either Ridge or Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals.
