Oquaye Jnr. Promises Breast Cancer Centre For Taifa-Burkina

Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Free Zones Authority, Michael Oquaye Jnr., has promised to provide an ultramodern breast cancer centre for the people of Taifa-Burkina in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency when voted as a Member of Parliament (MP) on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The MP hopeful who was addressing market women at Taifa during a free breast screening programme organized by the Ghana Free Zones Authority indicated that cancer has been a major cause of death among women therefore, the need to establish a centre at Taifa and its catchment areas to enhance early detection and treatment.

“Recently, a member of ours at the Dome Kwabenya Constituency was announced dead after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I promise to complete the story building of the Taifa Polyclinic and dedicate it as a breast cancer centre,” he said.

Mr. Oquaye Jnr., revealed that in 2022 a total of 16 breast cancer cases were recorded out of which 6 were male after a similar exercise in Dome Kwabenya.

“All persons affected were allowed to go for further treatment at various hospitals for treatment and their bills were paid for them. I will do more when given the nod to represent you,” he said.

Ga East Municipal Director of Health, Dr. Selorm Kutsoati, on his part called on women to prioritize their health by visiting health centres when they detect any sign or symptoms of breast cancer.

This includes new lumps or thickening in the breast, especially if in only one breast, nipple sores, change in the shape of the nipple, nipple discharge or turning in, changes in the size or shape of the breast, skin of the breast dimpling, discomfort or swelling in the armpit and rash or red swollen breasts.

“Some people have no symptoms and the cancer is found during a screening mammogram or a physical examination by a doctor so it is advisable for women to frequent the hospital when they detect signs in their breasts,” she added.

The breast cancer screening program which took place at Taifa-Burkina market, Abokobi market, and La market was organized by the Ghana Free Zones Authority.
