Otumfuo For Memphis Festival

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, is due to participate in the 44th edition of the annual Memphis In May International Festival scheduled to hold in Memphis, Tennessee, US.

The hint was contained in a statement from Manhyia, Kumasi, and dated April 20, 2022.

The visit will offer the King the opportunity to woo investors to Ghana apart from displaying the rich Ashanti culture.

According to organisers of the festival, this is the second royal participation in its 44-year history, the first being that of the Maori Queen at the Salute New Zealand in 1991.

The King will be accompanied by various chiefs who owe allegiance to the Golden Stool in the five-day programme, an aspect of which would be a durbar on the historic Beale Street on May 8.

The festival is designed to break down barriers and promote greater understanding and strengthen ties between the City of Memphis and the Mid-Southern US and Ghana.

The Ashanti King is expected to meet with top government officials and business leaders, engagement which it is expected would promote investment.

A gala is planned for the Renaissance Convention Centre, Grand Ball Room on May 8.

The programme is intended to coincide with the 72nd birthday of the King, organisers have put out in the statement.

The King will visit the National Civil Rights Museum, the STAX Museum of American Soul Music and the Gracebond, home of Memphis legend Elvis Presley.

Otumfuo will also visit the headquarters of Fedex, and the largest producer of robotic medicine, Medtronic, and meet celebrated musicians and religious leaders such as Al Green, after which he will attend a church service at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church.
