Foreign Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has indicated that the visit of the first woman Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the Congressional Delegation would help boost Ghana’s tourism.
According to the Minister, their visit would throw attention on Ghana and help give further momentum to the ‘Year of Return.’
The Minister was speaking to the media on Sunday, July 28, 2019, the same day the Delegation led by Madam Pelosi arrived in Accra.
Nancy Pelosi and her delegation touched down at Terminal 3 Sunday afternoon and were met by the US Ambassador to Ghana, Stephanie S. Sullivan and the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Mike Aaron Ocquaye.
Some members of Parliament, as well as other dignitaries, were also at the Kotoka International Airport to welcome the US Speaker.
Speaker Pelosi is billed to deliver an address to the Ghanaian Parliament on Wednesday.
While in Ghana, the US Speaker and her delegation will pay respects at Cape Coast and Elmina Castles.
At the Cape Coast Castle, they will be at the ‘Door of No Return’ to observe the 400th Anniversary of the First Enslaved Africans Landing in America.
The Foreign Minister indicated that the Delegation has between 35 and 40 members.
She indicated that their visit is going to enhance US-Ghana relations and more tourists to Ghana.
