PRESIDENT AKUFO-Addo has designated the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, as the sector supervising minister for pensions.
This is pursuant to Section 211 of the National Pensions Act 2008 (ACT 766), as amended.
Mr. Baffour Awuah is expected to diligently carry out the duties imposed on him under the law and oversee the successful implementation of its provisions.
The Employment and Labour Relations Minister, who disclosed this at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)’s public hearing yesterday, said the additional responsibility given him was contained in a letter received from the Presidency on January 30, 2023.
He said the appointment was with immediate effect, which meant he would be responsible for the National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
“I take this opportunity to formally congratulate you on your designation. It is my hope that you will carry out the duties imposed on you under Act 766 diligently and that you will oversee the successful implementation of its provisions,” he read the letter from the President.

Chairman of PAC, who doubles as the NDC MP for Ketu North, Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, expressed gratitude to the appointing authority, describing the appointment as very refreshing.
“That is very refreshing. Now we can say that when we call SSNIT, SSNIT has a minister who can lead it to appear before us.
“I want to thank the Director General and you yourself (Minister) and congratulate you for being given that responsibility,” he asserted.
