Police Close Roads For Kofi Annan

The police administration has announced the temporary closure and diversion of certain roads in Accra ahead of the funeral and burial service of the late former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.

The closure takes effect from Tuesday, September 11 to Thursday, September 13, 2018.

A statement, issued and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Eklu, said “the affected areas include the Osu Cemetery, traffic light on the Lokko Street, the Castle Road from the AU Circle to Osu Cemetery traffic light”.

He said motorists from Lokko Street towards the Castle Road should consider using Ajumaka and Oxford Street. Traffic from the AU Circle towards the Castle Road shall be diverted to the Abdul Diouf and King Hassan roads.

“Unmarked vehicles will not be permitted to park or drive through these blockade; security vehicles and vehicles carrying dignitaries will be allowed after thorough checks,” the statement announced.

According to the statement, “traffic police officers have also been deployed to provide assistance”.

ACP David Eklu urged the public to take note of these traffic arrangements and cooperate with the police to ensure effective traffic management as we mourn and honour the loss of an illustrious son of the land.
