Police In Volta Commit To Journalists’ Safety

The Volta Regional Police Command has assured journalists in the region of their safety and security during the December 7, 2024 elections.

Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Andrews Boadu-Ekumah,  who gave the assurance said as part of strategies to safeguard journalists, the Regional Command would provide liaison officers to various media organisations to coordinate their security needs during the elections.

He was speaking at a press engagement between the media and the police on security arrangements to ensure a safe working environment for journalists.

DCOP Boadu-Ekumah noted that the initiative was to ensure good communication and coordination between the media and the police for a peaceful 2024 elections.

He added that key aspects of the initiative was to allocate police officers to media houses to establish a direct link between the two bodies for security related matters.

He commended the media practitioners for their support to the security agencies over the years and asked them to exhibit high professional standards to help make the December 7 polls a success.

The Regional Police Commander further stated that they are fully committed to maintaining peace during the elections, warning that anyone causing disturbances at polling stations would face severe consequences.

He said security was a joint responsibility between the security agencies and the public, urging that every unpleasant conduct by any individual or group must be reported to the security agencies without delay.

DCOP Boadu-Ekumah said the police would be joined by personnel of the other security agencies to maintain law and order at the polling stations.
