The police administration has held a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony in Accra to honour the memory of police personnel who died in the line of duty.

Ten police officers, including a female officer, who died in 2016 and 2017, were honored at a colourful ceremony held at the forecourt of the Police Cenotaph in Accra.

The fallen heroes included Detective Corporal Francis Amenyo Aballo, Corporal Robert Kumi Ackah, Corporal Daniel Owusu, Corporal Michaeal Kporyi, and Constable Kwakuvi Hukporti

The rest are Corporal Jakper Biitleeb Yamdauk, Corporal Esther Kagya Junior, Constable Daniel Kwesi Appiah, Constable Courage Agbetsiafa and Lance Corporal Frank Degbey.

In attendance were the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery, the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, Police Management Board members, senior police officers, families of the fallen police officers and other guests.

Five of the dead police officers had their names written on the wall of honour, while five others also had their names inscribed in the roll of honour.

According to DSP Sheila Buckman, the director in-charge of the Public Affairs, the event was to honour the former police personnel and shape the future.

The wall of honour is dedicated to officers who perished through adversarial and combative action while the roll of honour is for officers died in the line of duty but not through adversarial or combative action.

She revealed that those who were not celebrated died through suicide or were guilty of misconduct, gross negligence, working under the influence of alcohol and narcotics, among others.

Five of the celebrated officers were killed by armed robbers while four died through motor accident.

However, Constable Daniel Kwesi Appiah was electrocuted by a 33KVA transformer at Aiyinase Osagyefo Power Barge.
