TWO SUSPECTED male thieves have been saved from the jaws of death by policemen at Tafo in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.
The duo, said to be 30 and 35 years old, were on a motorbike when they snatched a bag containing money from a victim.
But luck eluded the two suspects, as they were knocked down by a taxi when they tried to escape with their booty.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 7, 2024, and it attracted some charged youth to the scene, who tried to lynch the suspects.
Tafo Pankrono District Sitrep confirming the case, said the suspects were hit by different objects, including concrete blocks, by their captors.
The report said the timely intervention of the police proved vital as they (police) managed to rescue the suspects and rushed them to the hospital.
“Upon information received from Control/Ash, to the effect that two men were been lynched at Tafo near the Tafo Government Hospital, the Tafo Pankrono Day Patrol Teams proceeded to the scene and found two unknown male adults, aged about 35 and 30 years in a gutter, having been beaten with multiple wounds all over their bodies and soaked in blood.
“Victims were on the verge of dying. Police also found concrete block beside the victims,” a police report said, adding, “Victims were removed from the gutter and conveyed to the Tafo Government Hospital where they were admitted for treatment.”
Preliminary investigations, the police said, “revealed that victims, who were on a motorbike, snatched a bag containing an unspecified amount from a customer, who had gone to cash money from Ecobank, Tafo Branch.
“That in an attempt to escape with the money, luck eluded them as they were knocked down by a taxi driver. The youth of the area who witnessed the incident pounced on them and subjected them to severe beatings,” the report added.
According to the police, they were yet to recover the motorbike used by the two suspects to assist in their investigations, adding that the suspects were still alive.
