Prisoner Caught With Wee

An inmate of the James Town Camp Prison in Accra has been put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing 5.60 grams of Indian Hemp.

A prison officer found the Indian Hemp on Yakubu Samari, 32, farmer and a resident of Maso in the Eastern Region after he conducted a search on him.

Yakubu Samari, who was charged with possession of narcotics without lawful authority, pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, remanded him into custody to reappear on February 8, 2018.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo, told the court that on August 16, 2017, the accused person and other inmates were sent out to work.

He said when the inmates returned to the prison yard, a prison officer called the accused and found four wrappers of a substance suspected to be Indian Hemp after a search.

He said the Forensic Laboratory, after examination, confirmed the substance to be cannabis.

Chief Inspector Dosoo added that the convict admitted the offence in his caution statement, saying the drugs were for his personal use.
