‘Probe Double Rent Scandal’

Dr. Hayford addressing the press

THE CAUCUS for Democratic Governance (CDG), a   pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) group, has called for an independent probe into the double rent allowance allegation leveled against the speaker of parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.

CDG has also urged further investigation into the double salaries scandal involving some ex-ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs) under the erstwhile NDC administration.

The group made the calls at a press conference yesterday in Accra.

In a statement read at the confab under the theme, “Corruption Is Indivisible: Double Rent Allowances Scandal Must Be Probed,” Dr. E.K. Hayford, a failed NDC parliamentary aspirant, said the 2018 budget allocated a relatively small amount of money to the ministry of education while a huge amount of money was paid to the speaker as rent allowance.

Dr. Hayford accused the CID of the Ghana Police Service of “showing no interest in recovering stolen monies.”

He also accused the government of making empty promises. “They are promises that have ended in a Ghana-US military agreement that seeks to sell the sovereignty of Ghana for $20million,” he alleged.

He urged the media and Ghanaians to continue the fight against corruption.

Edward Nartey, a member of CDG, entreated the media to follow up on their stories.
