Report reaching DGN online indicates that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has delivered a significant number of its 2016 manifesto promises.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a press conference on Monday, June 14, 2020, stated that the NPP has fulfilled just 14% of its manifesto promises.
But checks show that the governing party has fulfilled a significant chunk of its manifesto promises ahead of the 2020 elections.
Among the promises fulfilled so far by the ‘elephant’ party are improvement on the quality of fuel produced or imported into Ghana by reviewing standards for sulphur in the fuels, improve transparency in the management of the country’s oil and gas resources, redeem Government’s obligations to Bulk Oil Distribution Companies, accelerate oil exploration in the Volta Basin, move Diaspora Affairs Bureau to the Office of the President, task diplomatic missions to focus on economic diplomacy.
Also, the NPP has honored its promise of ensuring that the procurement of new power projects are executed primarily through PPP and IPP arrangements and are transparent and resulting in least-cost addition of power generation infrastructure.
The party is committed to unsuring that there is sufficient reserve margin to ensure electricity stability as promised in 2016, hence the end to dumsor as witnessed under President John Mahama.
Again, the party has fulfilled its pledge to establish a framework to facilitate the return of Ghanaians and people of African decent living abroad, with the Year of Return in 2019, leading to thousands of Africans visiting Ghana.
The Government has also succeeded in working with the African Union to establish the Continental Free Trade Area, with its Secretariat in Accra.
