A rousing welcome for BA Minister Designate, Asomah-Cheremeh
Residents in the Sunyani Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region including New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and security personnel yesterday gave a rousing welcome to the incoming Brong Ahafo Regional minister, lawyer Asomah Kwaku Cheremeh into the city.
Lawyer Asomah Kwaku Cheremeh, the Brong Ahafo NPP Regional chairman was among 10 regional ministers designate named by President Nana Akufo Addo.
The hard working lawyer who delivered 20 parliamentary seats out of 29 in the Brong Ahafo to the ruling NPPÂ was met on arrival at Tepa Junction by party supporters and was led into the municipality in a long convoy of cars amidst pomp and pageantry.
A lot of people right from Bechem in the Tano South District through to Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North District lined up the streets and waved their hands and handkerchiefs to welcome the incoming regional minister.
Briefly addressing the enthusiastic crowd in front of his law chamber, the minister designate thanked the people for the rousing welcome given him. He asked them to join him pray to the Lord to successfully see him through the vetting process in parliament. He called on all and sundry including both NDC and NPP supporters as well as Nananom to join hands with him to enable him bring progress to the region.
Meanwhile, the Nananom of Sunyani Traditional Council had earlier in the day held a press conference claiming they cannot work with the minister designate. Their reason being that, the astute lawyer had disrespected them before and during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
According to the Krontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Bofotia Boaponsem II, who addressed the press on behalf of the Sunyani Omanhene, Nana Asor Nkrawire, IV, lawyer Asomah Cheremeh had refused to honour several invitations extended to him to appear before them to explain disparaging comments he(lawyer) had allegedly made against the Omanhene and president of the Council in a press conference the lawyer held sometime ago.
He said due to that and other issues, the Traditional Council is not ready to work with the minister designate. He, however, indicated that the doors of Nananom are open for any negotiations and settlement if the minister designate is ready to come to them.
