The General Overseer of Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), Rev. Ransford Obeng, has called on Christians to take their health seriously by adopting healthy lifestyles and undergoing regular medical checkups to prolong their lives and fulfill God’s purpose.

Speaking to the media during his 69th birthday celebration on Saturday, which featured a blood donation exercise at the church’s premises at Ayigya in Kumasi, Rev. Obeng emphasised the importance of health consciousness.

He revealed that consistent medical checkups and adhering to doctors’ advice on diet and lifestyle had been key to his well-being.

“God has granted us the grace to enjoy good health and longevity, but it is our responsibility to care for our bodies. Regular medical examinations and following professional health advice, especially regarding our diets, are crucial if we want to remain healthy and fulfill God’s divine agenda,” he noted.

An officer at the Transfusion Medicine Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Shadrack Afful Appiah, expressed appreciation to Rev. Obeng and CCC members for their consistent support over the past decade.

He noted that CCC’s annual donations have significantly helped sustain KATH’s Blood Bank, which supplies around 80 pints of blood daily to the Accident and Emergency Unit.

“Donations like these are critical. KATH heavily relies on organisations such as CCC to maintain its blood supply. We also use social media and various platforms to appeal to the public to donate blood, as the need remains constant,” Mr. Appiah explained.

More than 100 CCC members took part in the blood donation exercise, following thorough medical screening.

Mrs. Becky Obeng, a member of CCC, said she has been donating blood for the past eight years.

“I used to have unexplained fears, but I’m now confident and proud to be part of this life-saving initiative,” she said.

Mr. Winston Tetteh, another congregant, said he has been a regular donor since 1999, starting during his university days.

Earlier in the day, over 500 male members of CCC took to the streets of Kumasi for a health walk, covering key areas from Ayigya through the KNUST campus, Anloga, and Amakom, ending at the Kumasi City Mall. The walk was capped with aerobic sessions aimed at promoting fitness.

Pastor George Ampratwum (popularly known as Pastor Buma) said the event was part of a series of activities planned by CCC men in the lead-up to Father’s Day.
