RITEK Outreach Ministry, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has donated clothing and educational materials to pupils of Fakawa, a rural community in the Ashanti Region.
Among the educational items donated were text books, pens, pencils, rulers, exercise books, crayons and kids’ wares.
In a release, Ritek Outreach said prior to its visit, it carried out a survey in the community where they discovered that the people were faced with poor living conditions which affected educational standards.
“On our first visit to the community earlier this year, we met a 90-year-old man called Muyimba Yagali, popularly known as Odikro, who received the items on behalf of the children and people of Fakawa,” the release said, adding that “on our second visit, we made a donation of 30 desks after discovering that the pupils sit on the bare floor to have their lessons.
“Some new curriculum text books including ‘Language and Literacy Skills’, ‘Mathematics’, ‘Science’ and ‘Our World, Our People’ were provided for them. Text books from KG1 to Class 6 were also provided.
“The items were received with much delight by the residents as one of the major challenges facing their educational system has been solved,” according to the release.
The NGO has promised to build a school block for them in 2020, the release added.
