The Managing Director of Samartex Timber and Plywood Company Limited in the Western Region, Dr. Richard Kwaku Duah Nsenkyire, has bemoaned the rapid depletion of the country’s Flora and Fauna due to preventable human endeavours.

Addressing journalists during a tree planting exercise to mark this year’s Green Ghana Day, Mr. Nsenkyire echoed the urgent need for a deeper reflection on how the country’s flora and fauna can be improved and sustained.

He maintained that critical issues like population growth, economic activities, and the continuous general sense of human wellbeing rest on how “we treat the environment.”

“As our population keeps growing, it has some effect on the environment. Therefore, we must necessarily take a deeper reflection on whether what we are doing now is the best, considering the fact that when the last tree dies, the last man follows,” he pointed out.

He said, “The environment and how we interact with it economically, and its linkages to our daily activities have a significant bearing on our sustenance, particularly for our future and the unborn generation.”
