The Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, has donated food and other items to the office of the Western Regional Chief Imam at the regional central mosque for distribution to Muslim communities within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
Western Regional Nassara Co-ordinator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Al-Labib Imam Ali, made the presentation that included bags of rice, sugar, mats and ‘buta’ on behalf of the Second Lady in Sekondi yesterday.
He indicated that the donation was the second lady’s contribution towards helping Muslims with certain basic needs, particularly after the one- month fasting.
He pointed out that the current government has Muslims at heart hence its decision to introduce the Zongo Development Fund to help improve the conditions in the zongos and also the living standards of the people.
He commended his colleague Muslims in the region for maintaining peace and unity and called on them to sustain the gesture for development.
He congratulated them on successfully going through the one-month fasting and asked them to let the lessons and experiences of the event guide them in their daily activities.
Receiving the items, the Western Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Ostaz Ali Hassan Ali, thanked Samira Bawumia and the government for the kind gesture.
He gave the assurance that Muslims in the region would peacefully co-exist with members of other religious organizations.
He also sought Allah’s blessings for President Akufo-Addo and the ministers of state as they provide leadership for the country.
He again prayed for peace and tranquility in the country, noting that “without peace, we cannot even observe our festival of fasting and prayers”.
