As part of efforts to transform the face of education in the Northern Sector of Ghana, and bridge the glaring gap between the standard of educational provision in the North and South of the country, Savannah International Academy [SIA] has organized a value-based training programme for selected teachers in Tamale. The 2-day free training workshop which took place on the 13th & 14th January 2018, brought together 28 participants from nine (9) selected feeder schools in Tamale.

The workshop, under the theme “Providing purposeful education that would shape and grow future leaders”, introduced teachers to modern teaching and learning techniques aimed at enhancing the quality of their delivery.

The participants were equipped with the requisite knowledge and strategies for effective lesson planning and delivery, as well as the skills necessary for tailoring teaching techniques and strategies to suit the varying learning styles of students. They were also equipped to execute a student-led approach, which is currently one of the learning approaches that deliver the best results in education.

Speaking at the opening session, Mrs. Sardia Mould, CEO of SIA, said “SIA is a firm believer in education for the promotion of sustainable development. At the core of our collective being is a belief in contributing positively to the growth and development of people and this training is our way of contributing to the society within which we operate. SIA is committed to filling the skill-set gap, especially in terms of basic quality in the educational sector, and this training is an attempt at that.”

The training workshops form part of Savannah International Academy’s corporate social responsibility, which aims to help raise the standards of teaching and learning especially in the Northern sector.

This workshop was the first of three (3) capacity building workshops to be held this year, the next of which will be on the 3rd and 4th of March at SIA’s school premises in Tamale.

Savannah International Academy is a private co-educational institution established as a centre of academic excellence in the north to fill the international boarding school gap in the Northern sector.

The school uses the English national curriculum to run International GCSE & International A’ Levels, thus enabling students to compete with other students at both the local and international levels.

SIA uses creative and innovative teaching methodologies to develop an all-round, critical thinking and problem-solving individual who is able to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.
