The Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Abdul Mumin Issah, has revealed that security issues in the Metropolis have seen relative improvement.
He however mentioned that one matter of concern in the area lately has been with the activities of scrap dealers, who are engaged in some illegal activities and need to be addressed.
“Activities of scrap dealers in the metropolis are now a major concern. The Assembly is therefore taking steps to regularise the operations of scrap dealers whilst the police are also on the lookout to apprehend those engaged in illegal activities, including the theft of electrical cables.
“Let all of us within the metropolis be vigilant and support in this fight,” he pointed out.
The MCE stated this in his seasonal address at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the fourth session of the Eighth Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
He told the members of the assembly that the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly’s revenue performance has been affected by the difficulties with the revised Property Rate Collection Policy.
“Nonetheless, management remains determined to work harder at maximising collections from the other revenue sources to mitigate the effect on our overall performance as an Assembly,” he stated.
He stated that the assembly has taken steps to ensure that the Waste Management Department of the Assembly embarked on a scheduled drain-desilting   programme
“Fortunately, there has not been any outbreak of cholera or any disease of public health concern in the Metropolis. However, reports indicate that the prevalence of lifestyle diseases such as stroke, hypertension, diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases are on the rise.
“I would therefore urge us all to take our health seriously by going for regular medical checkups, engaging in some form of exercises and eating a healthy balanced diet.” he stressed.
He admitted that the conditions of roads within the Metropolis are in a deplorable states, and attributed it to constant downpour, coupled with dwindling inflows of revenue which has worsened the situation.
“However, despite these challenges, the Assembly, through the department of Urban Roads has undertaken various interventions to avert the situation, making roads quite motorable,” he indicated.
The Presiding Member of the assembly, John Buckman could not fathom why with all the in-service training and capacity workshops, some staff and Assembly Members would engage in some diabolical activities at the expense of the Assembly’s image.
