Sefwi Boako Residents Want Peace

Residents of Sefwi Boako in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region say they would do everything within their power to protect the peace they are currently enjoying.

They have therefore called on the security agencies to help avert possible disturbances that could occur in the area because of an alleged rift between the Chief of the area and the Queenmother.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that tension is brewing within the community following an alleged destoolment of the Queenmother, Nana Bennieh Apenten II, by the Chief of Sefwi Boako, Nana Asante Kwao II.

Meanwhile, the Queenmother, Nana Bennieh Apenten also claims she has destooled the Chief, Nana Asante Kwao II.

It all started on Thursday July 13, 2023, when the Chief slaughtered a sheep to destool the queenmother while she was away at Sefwi Bibiani, where she works.

Upon hearing about the news of her destoolment for no apparent reasons or  without any charges, the Queenmother returned to Sefwi Boako last Saturday and in the company of her supporters also slaughtered a sheep at the Chief’s palace when the Chief was not around, to also destool him.

According to sources, the situation has brought uneasy calm in the town and some of the residents say they are not happy about the current happenings in the area.

They claim that they had been with the Queenmother in the community in peace for over 30 years, but the problems started about three years ago when the same Queenmother installed the Chief.

“So we don’t understand the current rift between our Queenmother and the Chief. We are appealing to the government, particularly, the security agencies to intervene to help avert future disturbances,” they said.

“In fact, we want absolute peace in Sefwi Boako and we are appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to act swiftly before anything bad happens in our peaceful community”, they asserted.

They continued, “The Bank of Ghana has one of its branched here at Sefwi Boako and so we don’t want any disturbances that can adversely affect the government’s assert in the area. We need more security.”

When contacted, Nana Asante Kwao indicated that he has travelled out of the community and promised to let the people know his next line of action when he returns to Sefwi Boako.

Meanwhile, the Queenmother has also promised to officially inform the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Okayakyie Kwasi Bumangama II about some alleged misconducts of the chief which can mar the relative peace in the area.

“I serve Okatakyie Bumangama so I will soon explain to him why I have destooled the Chief of Sefwi Boako”, she said.
