The actions of some of our countrymen and women depict Ghana as a very strange society, if not very hypocritical.
Our society lacks any values and principles. The bold ones can tell you, “na values, we go chop,” and in other words it does not matter the means to an end. And from high and low, it is difficult like in the days of Noah, to find a patriotic citizen who is prepared to sacrifice for Ghana first.
If we are all not involved in this hypocritical behaviour, why is it that a very critical section of our society, the media confraternity, will make the “soli” they took at the engagement with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the subject of discussion, especially among the pro-NDC journalists but zip their mouths about the envelopes they received at the presser by John Mahama.
If really “soli” demeans the profession then, we should decline the offer from all quarters, instead of making one look like a bribe to influence good coverage and the other coming from the “pious and incorruptible” John Mahama, a mere good gesture from a generous man.
We all did the same during the primaries by the political parties, with Kissi Agyebeng’s Office of the Special Prosecutor falling for the agitation from NDC quarters that the moneys given to NPP delegates formed part of political corruption but not the over 14 million Ghana cedis given the NDC delegates by John Mahama.
A section of our society including the more educated in the media, academia and civil society who are aligned to the NDC are consistently hypocritical with double standard character straits.
And instead of John Mahama, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Asiedu Nketia, Fifi Kwetey, Sammy Gyamfi and other leaders of the NDC showing concern about the lack of scrutiny and discussion of the NDC manifesto, they are giving media traction to Veep Mahamudu Bawumia’s press conference to the NPP’s electoral advantage.
In the run-up to the December 7 elections, John Mahama and his team continue to think inside the box, hence their inability to excite the electorate and the media with alternative policies.
That is why John Mahama, even as a communicator chose the “resetting” agenda without thinking of how to “reset” dumsor as against the forward looking “upgrade” mantra of the visionary Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the man of the moment who has changed this year’s electioneering to the bewilderment of his opponents, but to the admiration of many Ghanaians.
The rest including opposition leader John Mahama are following with their “copy-a-thons”. And we ask where is the NDC leader who was mimicking the antics of Usain Bolt in 2016? Perhaps, age has caught up with him. His handlers say he is waiting for more gimmicks during the photo finish.
The hypocrisy has assumed a noisy pitch. Even the former President who was unable to answer satisfactorily questions about corruption when he has hosted by the BBC is able to talk about impropriety.
His short memories deny him the knowledge of how he gave out Ghana’s bauxite deposits at Nyinahin to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, after his heavy defeat in 2016. The man who is now on a moral high ground, a crusader and a very pious former President once upon a time collected a Ford Expedition as a gift from a Burkinabe contractor, who worked on portions of the Eastern Corridor road, an act for which CHRAJ indicted him for being in a conflict of interest situation.
We can assure the NDC and the rest of Ghanaians that we do not suffer from short memories and for which reason we serve notice that we will unmask the hypocrisy, inconsistencies and the double tongue of all NDC elements to help Ghanaians make informed decisions.
We believe that despite the agenda of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng to present John Mahama as an incorruptible character, the verdict of the public is that so long as the former President remains Government Official One, there are more questions than answers that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng provided the public.
