Sofoline Retaining Wall Collapsed

The collapsed wall

A retaining wall at the Sofoline Interchange collapsed unexpected during a heavy downpour in Kumasi on Tuesday evening.

Fortunately, no calamity occurred as nobody was around the place when the wall suddenly crumbled.

However, part of the Sofoline road network which stretches from Kwadaso to Sofoline was blocked.

Huge pile of sand in the area occupied and blocked that portion of the road after the wall had crumbled, thereby preventing vehicles from moving.

Eye witnesses said the rainfall was so heavy that they were not surprised that the wall collapsed.

Akwasi Aboagye, an eye witness, said it rained in the area for close to four hours on Tuesday.

He said the retaining wall, which has not developed any cracks, suddenly collapsed in the evening.

The Sofoline Interchange project was initiated by ex-President Kufuor’s administration to improve movement.

The Akufo-Addo government has given assurance to complete the project.
