SOME SPARE parts dealers could not hide their jubilation after the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, declared President Akufo-Addo as the winner of this year’s presidential election.
In an announcement on Wednesday, the EC said President Akufo-Ado polled 51.59 per cent of votes as against 47.36 per cent for the main opposition candidate, John Mahama.
“At the end of the polls, Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), obtained 6,730,413 votes, being 51.595% of the total valid votes cast,” Chairperson of the EC announced.
Before the elections, both leading candidates signed a solemn undertaking to resolve any electoral disputes through legal channels and called on their supporters to refrain from violence.
Speaking to Business Guide in an interview at Abossey Okai, Owusu Asare, a spare parts dealer who was in a jubilant mood and clad in NPP colours, said he was happy that President Akufo-Addo had been re-elected to power to continue his good policies particularly the Free SHS, which had provided a lot of relief to most parents.
“Were it not for President Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS policy, I would be squeezing water from stone to get my three kids to the senior high school. In fact, that has granted me a lot of relief and I can now invest the money which I would have spent on school fees into my spare parts business,” he indicated.
He also said a lot of government’s policies were yielding good returns for Ghanaians and those have been complimented by the electorate who voted massively in favour of the President.
Some also spoke about the 1D1F which had provided jobs for indigenes in their respective districts.
Reacting on whether the government has dealt well with spare parts dealers, Mr. Asare replied in the affirmative and noted that the next four years would present better economic achievements for the NPP administration.
Charity Boamah, another spare parts dealer who could not hide her excitement, stated that a win for the NPP was a win for small and medium-scale enterprises, since government had focused its attention on developing the sector in spite of the coronavirus pandemic.
She therefore called on all to support the NPP to carry out its mandate successfully over the next term.
Touching on the protests being staged by the main opposition party in parts of the country recently, Jones Boateng said these were uncalled for, since all parties had agreed that any party which disagreed with anything regarding the elections could peacefully use the law courts to seek redress.
