Stephen Atubiga Takes On “Grandma” Over Dressing Code

A former Presidential Aspirant of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Atubiga, has sparked controversy with his comments on the dress of the party’s running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The 77-year-old Running Mate to former President John Dramani Mahama has been spotted at a series of events wearing outmoded dresses with shoes that don’t match, which netizens on social media are jabbing her over.

In a social media post, Atubiga called on the National Women’s Organizer and former First Lady, Lordina Mahama, to intervene and guide the running mate on her dressing.

He suggested that the running mate should stick to traditional clothing such as the “kabba top and down” which he believes would make her look “very beautiful, elegant and smart” at her age.

Atubiga also offered to provide the Running Mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang with free clothing and designs from his fashion designer wife until the election is over.

However, his comments have been met with criticism from some quarters, with many accusing him of being sexist and misogynistic.

Some have argued that Atubiga’s comments are an attempt to dictate what the running mate should wear and that he should focus on more pressing issues such as policy and governance.

Others have praised Atubiga for his concern for the running mate’s image, but have cautioned him to be more sensitive in his approach.

The controversy has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many weighing in on the issue.

Atubiga’s comments have also raised questions about the role of women in politics and the expectations placed on them.

Some have argued that women in politics should be judged on their policies and performance rather than their dress.

Others have suggested that Atubiga’s comments are a reflection of the patriarchal society we live in, where women are often judged on their appearance rather than their abilities.
