STMA Secures €3m For Projects

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western Region has secured a three million Euros fund from the European Union to implement its sustainable partnership project with the City of Palermo in Italy.

Isaac Aidoo, the Lead Coordinator on the Project, and a Senior Development Planner with the STMA, disclosed this at a press conference.

The project, dubbed the “Twin Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project”, is a three-year project to promote integrated urban development through partnerships built among local authorities.

The project would advance the city authorities capacity to respond to perennial challenges of urban sprawl, climate change, unemployment, poverty and the new realities of the Corona Virus pandemic.

He stated “Specifically, the project is geared towards enhancing urban management, climate resilience, fostering transnational cooperation and boosting socio-economic development.”

The project, he revealed had the STMA as the lead implementer and the municipality of Palermo in Italy as partners.

“The initiative will enhance multilevel urban governance in STMA with focus on green, inclusive and cultural sensitive Urban development”, it mentioned.

The three-year project would enhance the capacities of assembly staff, vulnerable groups, introduce climate resilience form of farming, youth friendly reproductive health rights centres and sanitation among others.

Mr. Abdul-Mumin Issah, the suspended Chief Executive of the STMA, said the management of the assembly was committed to utilise all opportunities to create a world class city with opportunities for its citizens.
