The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has expressed outrage and disappointment at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for launching its Youth Manifesto without consulting the union.
The manifesto, unveiled on Monday in Accra, promises to waive academic fees for first-year tertiary students if the NDC wins the upcoming election.
However, NUGS President Daniel Oppong Kyeremeh has criticized the NDC for formulating this policy in isolation, without input from the student union.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Kyeremeh highlighted the union’s concerns about the lack of dialogue and consultation on a policy that directly affects students.
He questioned the feasibility and implementation of the proposed fee waiver, emphasizing that NUGS would have liked to discuss these issues if consulted.
Kyeremeh’s comments suggest that the NDC’s decision to exclude NUGS from discussions reflects a disregard for the union’s potential contributions.
He argued that the union has valuable insights and recommendations to offer, and their exclusion undermines the democratic process.
This development raises questions about the NDC’s commitment to inclusive policy-making and its willingness to engage with key stakeholders.
