The Alhassan being introduced by the Suhum EC bossĀ
The Suhum Municipal Assembly on Tuesday elected Baba Alhassan Mohammed as the Presiding Member (PM) to steer the affairs of the assembly.
The new PM, who is the Assembly member for Suhum-Ahenbronmu South, managed to poll 39 votes out of 42 votes to beat his contender, Lucy Anim. The election was supervised by the officers of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the municipality.
Baba Mohammed, who was sworn in by the Suhum Magistrate, thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work hard to promote the interests of the Assembly.
He appealed to Assembly members to work together to achieve their aim devoid of partisan politics.
Alhassan Mohammed urged the assembly members not to lose sight of the fact that development was inclusive, hence the need to join hands to fight against poverty, hunger and diseases.
The Suhum Member of Parliament (MP), Fredrick Opare Ansah, on his part, appealed to the electorate to take part in the decision-making process since participatory democracy occurs when citizens do not sit on the fence to engage in blame game.
He added that the work of the assemblies would be appreciated if the assembly members and unit committees work closely and provide information that would help to facilitate developmental programmes.
Hon. Fredrick Opare Ansah also called on the citizenry to promote the interests of Ghana.
