Suhum Zongos Clash

The timely intervention of the Suhum Police Command and a reinforcement from the Kyebi Police Division in the Eastern Region last Saturday averted what could have resulted in a bloody incident when two Zongo groups clashed.

The Zongo youth of Gariba and Ayekotse Zongo disagreed over the installation and coronation of one Issah Ali as the Deputy Hausa Chief for the Suhum Municipality, which the Hausa Chief, Mallam Abubakar Gariba wasn’t in support of.

The misunderstanding arising from the nomination was sent to the Apedwahene for settlement.

However, after the Akyem-Apedwahene, Nana Frimpong Manso II resolved the issue, he gave the green light to the Ayekotse Zongos to go ahead with the installation and, thereafter, go to the Ayekotse chief to swear to the stool.

But the Suhum Municipal Hausa chief, also the Chief of Gariba Zongo organised thugs to the forecourt of the Suhum-Ayekotse Central Mosque where the coronation was ongoing to disrupt the ceremony.

The thugs disrupted the proceedings and assaulted the organisers, resulting in a free-for-all-fight as some especially women and children fled from the scene.
The Police from Suhum and Kyebi restored normalcy following which the Divisional Commander went to meet the Apedwahene.
