Train service on the Tema-Accra stretch, which was suspended temporarily for rehabilitation is expected to resume today (18 July 2022), the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) has said.
It follows the successful test run of the lines after the completion of works by the Ghana Railway Company Limited.
The resumption of the train service is expected to ease traffic congestion on the Tema-Accra road, the statement said.
A statement issued by the GRCL said a restricted speed limit of 35km/h has been imposed on the movement of the train to enable its technical team to continue to address any teething problem.
“Management of Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) wishes to inform the general public that the Tema-Accra passenger train service, which was suspended temporarily for rehabilitation works is scheduled to resume on Monday, 18 July 2022.
“After successfully addressing some technical challenges, GRCL conducted a series of test runs and a final joint inspection was also carried out on 7 July 2022, by GRCL and Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) to ascertain the suitability of the line for passenger service,” the GRCL statement said.
