A proprietor of a school in Tamale, who was arraigned before court for allegedly failing to register students for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), has been granted bail.
Prince Sulemana Saeed, 28, who doubles as the headmaster of Prince of Peace International School in Tamale, was yesterday granted bail in the sum of GH?10,000, with one surety to reappear on 26th July, 2018.
He pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of defrauding by false pretenses.
As at the time of filing this report, the accused had not satisfied the bail conditions.
Saeed caused outrage in the Northern Regional capital when he failed to register some students for the ongoing BECE, even though the affected candidates paid the exams fees in full.
The suspect reportedly registered 75 out of 151 candidates and charged each of the 151 students of the school GH¢100 for the registration, amounting to GH¢15,100.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Mohammed Yusuf Tanko, who confirmed the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, urged parents and students of the school to remain calm and provide the police with information to speed up the prosecution.
The paper gathered that the headmaster did not register the students, especially the female students, because they refused to have sex with him.
Some of the affected students alleged that the accused person issued fake index numbers to some of the 151 students of the school, who rejected his sexual advances but issued authentic index numbers to students of a different school.
“I am not the only one, he has forced most of the girls to have sex with him, sometimes he tells you to come to his house, but we refuse to go.”
The angry students have called on the Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh and the Ghana Education Service (GES) and WAEC to immediately stop students registered for the BECE in the name of Prince of Peace International School from writing the exams.
“We don’t need the money again; all we want is to write our final exams, because it’s our life.”
