The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has appointed a new Deputy General Secretary.
Mark D. Korankye’s appointment was confirmed at a National Executive Council meeting of TEWU, which took place at the Public Service Union Centre (PSWU) in Kumasi.
The professional administrator, who is currently the Registrar at the GIMPA Faculty of Law, was confirmed the Deputy General Secretary after polls.
He was formerly the Second National Trustee of the Union.
Other officials, who were elected, are Bintu Fati Awudu, the Second National Trustee of TEWU, who is a professional accountant and Madam Awudu, the newly-elected the Eastern Regional chairperson of the Union.
The General Secretary of TEWU Augustine Saakuur Karbo said that Mark Korankye comes with a wealth of managerial and inter-personal experience which will help to propel the union in Ghana’s competitive labor environment.
“I am hopeful Mr Korankye and Madam Awudu with their strong, mature and rich experience in life will bring on board innovative ideas to meet the expectations of the thousands of TEWU members who want to see qualitative and quantitative improvement in the conditions of service,” he added.
The national leadership of TEWU comprises National Chairperson, Peter K. Lumor; First National Chairperson, Bismark Bawa; Second National Chairperson, Florence Agyei-Wiredu; General Secretary, Augustine Saakuur Karbo; Deputy General Secretary, Mark D. Korankye; First National Trustee, Dr William Adjei- Twumasi and Second National Trustee, Bintu Fati Awudu.
Mr Karbo urged the new leaders to unite and build the union to achieve its aims in the coming years.
“Let us bear in mind that our cherished members and Ghanaian workers desire to go on retirement on enhanced pension benefits to enable them to live dignified and comfortable lives after dedicated service to the country in their various workplaces,” he averred.
