Mr. Annan-La further stated that all illegal structures erected along the lagoon would be demolished by the Assembly in order to allow the free flow of water to avert catastrophe.

The Chief Executive also ordered the evacuation of equipment, cement mixing machine and poly tank, belonging to the contractor working on the Ramser site, who was not available at the time of the visit.

He gave the order when he toured a blocked drain at Community 18, Cambodia Down in Tema and other flood prone areas in the metropolis.

The water channel had been blocked by a private developer, thereby exposing residents in the area to danger anytime it rains.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) in the wake of the flooding engaged the services of a private excavator operator to dig up the water channel which had been refilled by a private developer to prevent flooding in the area.

Threats

However, in the course of excavation, the developer, a businessman, who was identified as Sledge Nana Yaw Duodo, appeared at the site and threatened to shoot the operator of the excavator.

The actions of the developer were reported to the police and he was subsequently arrested for further interrogations.

On her part, the Tema Metropolitan Director of the National Disaster Management Orgnsiation (NADMO), Hajia Zinab Abdulai, outlined some measures being taken by her outfit to prevent flooding in the metropolis.

According to her, Act 927 empowers NADMO to enter any premises that pose danger during flooding and demolish such facilities.

She promised to support victims who lost their belongings due to the flood.

Several properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed.

The officials toured flood-prone areas like Community 2, BBC area, Community 3, Old Aviation, as well as Community 5, Church Village, Aponche Clinic Area and the Ramser site.
