Adamu Alhassan, a 63-year-old trader, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Kwadaso Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region for stealing a tricycle and 114 loaves of bread valued at GH¢1,680.00 and GH¢35,000.00 respectively.
Alhassan pleaded guilty to the charges and was convicted on his own plea.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Oduro Zakaria, a bread baker, had left his faulty tricycle loaded with bread in Alhassan’s care while he went in search of a mechanic. Alhassan, however, absconded with both the vehicle and the bread.
Investigations revealed that Alhassan later sold the tricycle for GH¢700.00 and distributed the bread among passersby. He admitted to the crime in his caution statement to the police.
He was subsequently arrested after being spotted at a station and handed over to the Ashanti Regional Anti-Armed Robbery Unit.
Alhassan was formally charged and sentenced by the court, presided over by Jephthah Appau.
