A fatal accident at the Tech Junction station in Kumasi has claimed the life of a commercial vehicle conductor, after a collision involving three vehicles.
Eyewitnesses told DAILY GUIDE that the incident occurred when the mate of one of the vehicles jumped out while the bus was still moving towards the station, to register for the next passenger load. In the process, he reportedly lost his balance and fell onto the road.
The moving vehicle is said to have run over him before crashing into another vehicle that was loading passengers at the station. A third commercial vehicle, which was following closely behind, also reportedly ran over the mate.
“He jumped out of the moving vehicle to register for the next load, but he slipped and fell. Their own vehicle hit him, and as he tried to get up, another vehicle behind also ran over him,” an eyewitness recounted.
The victim was rushed to the Tech Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. No passengers sustained injuries in the accident.
“Apart from the mate, no one else was hurt. It is very shocking because this is the first time such an incident has happened here,” another eyewitness said.
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has since towed all the vehicles involved, while investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the accident.
