Scenes from the Circle Dubai Crush
The contractors of the newly commissioned Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange popularly called ‘Circle Dubai’ have to be mobilized to site two days after the place was flooded as a truck carrying a 40-footer container, rammed into the rails.
The truck which crashed into the guard rails of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle interchange destroyed some vehicles under the bridge. No casualties were recorded.
The contractors, Gueiroz Galvao Construction; a Brazilian Company are being questioned for doing a shoddy job.
The incident happened at about 5pm and according to the report the container fell on two empty 207 Sprinter Benz buses parked close to the Royal VVIP bus station.
The trailer, which appears to be carrying bags of sugar, was moving from the Ring Road side of the stretch towards Kaneshie when the incident occurred.
It was not immediately clear what might have caused the accident but eye witnesses claimed the driver of the trailer with registration number GT 5557 U may possibly have lost control.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle whose container had lost balance as it drove on the overpass.
Officials of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Ambulance Service and the National Road Safety, were at the scene to maintain order. Meanwhile, the badly mangled 207 buses were towed from the scene to the MTTU office in Accra.
Thousands gathered with their phones high up the overpass, others much closer to the action down the overpass, all of whom took shots with videos of the terrible accident, circulating on social media.
The driver of the trailer survived what was an appointment with death but was not immediately available for comment.
