The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana(TUTAG), has supported Iddrisu Abdul-hanan who is hearing impaired yet has dared his disability to the extent of gaining admission into the University of Educaton, Winneba.
The hearing impaired student had to go to a local Television station Sagani TV to appeal to the Ghanaian populace for assistance to the enable him pay his school fees.
TUTAG was touched by the plight and effort of the gentleman in question and decided to support him by paying the fees for all the three years that he will be in school.
“Looking at the fees for the first year and by simple calculations based on projected marginal increases in the fees for the three -year period we are presenting a cash amount of GHC 5,000.00 to him to cover his fees for the three years.”
The association called on other well-meaning Ghanaians and corporate organisations to go to the aid of other vulnerable persons in society, adding that if COVID-19 is so hard on the abled, then one can imagine what the disabled and vulnerable are going through.
Mr. IAbdul-hanan expressed his gratitude to TUTAG for their support towards his education.
He said the hearing impaired in society wished to be part of the educational system and called on government to employ interpreters in the various tertiary schools to enable them be educated to help build the country as well.
Mr. Hanan appealed to government to establish a hearing impaired school in Tamale to make education accessible for them in Tamale.
Meanwhile, Dr. Michael Akurugu Brigandi, the National President of Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana, disclosed that government has shown good faith to some extent, particularly so with their conditions of service which is almost a done deal.
He however lamented that TUTAG has still not been paid the arrears of research allowances due its members and called on the ministry of finance to expedite action on the said allowances.
Dr. Brigandi said on issue of Migration of Bolgatanga and Wa Technical Universities staff onto the Ghana University Salary Structure is still not completed and appealed that at least having been converted, the staff should have been informed of the effective date of the expected migration, in order that they will have an idea as to what to expect at the end of the migration.
The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana(TUTAG) added their voice to that of the president calling on their students and all students and pupils in the country for that matter to take the urgent appeal of the president seriously and observe the COVID -19 safety protocols as religiously as possible in order that they will not face another lockdown.
