Twifo Pewodie Youth Clash … Injure Assemblyman, DJ

THE TIMELY intervention of the Twifo Praso Police averted a bloodbath and possible fatality when the youth of Twifo Pewodie and Mintaso in the Central Region clashed.

Two persons including the Assembly Member of Twifo Pewodie, identified as Michael Daddey Arhinful and a disc jockey whose name was not available at the time of filing this report have sustained injuries following the clash.

A certain Kofi Nokoe was also arrested in the process by the police.

Sources say the clash was started when the DJ abruptly stopped playing songs during a funeral.

According to the source, the chiefs and elders of Twifo Pewodie had set a rule that no DJ must play music beyond 7pm for any occasion in the town.

Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service in the Central Region, when contacted, said on January 29, 2022, the Twifo Praso District Police Command received a distress call that the Assembly Member for Twifo Pewodie Electoral Area had been attacked by some youth of the town.

He said upon receipt of the information, police proceeded to the scene of crime and found three motorcycles burnt and another damaged by the youth, who had all fled the scene.

The damaged motorcycle, according to information, belongs to Mr. Arhinful.

Police managed to restore order, and arrested suspect Kofi Nokoe to assist in investigation.

Inspector Ettie said preliminary investigations on the grounds revealed that while the DJ was playing music, one Derrick Narh, drew the attention of the crowd and reminded them that the chiefs and elders had directed that DJ’s must close at 7:00 pm.

“On that order, the DJ stopped playing the music at 7:00pm, and in the process, the youth, who were dancing, got angry and assaulted him.

The assemblyman, who tried to intervene to bring the situation under control, was also attacked by the youth.

They tore his shirt and damaged his motorbike before going ahead to burn the three unregistered motorbikes belonging to the friends of the DJ, who were from Twifo Mintaso, a nearby community where the DJ hails from, he said.

He said some youth of Twifo Mintaso, who got information that their friends had been attacked, went there to retaliate but the police foiled the attack, which led to the arrest of Kofi Nokoe.

He said other persons whose names were mentioned but on the run, are wanted by the police to assist with investigations.
