Aspiring Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Paul Apraku Twum Barimah, has commended President Akufo-Addo for the huge financial support the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has received under his leadership to ensure that it provides efficient and sustainable electricity supply to Ghanaians.

Mr. Twum Barimah, who is also an energy expert with experience in upstream and midstream oil and gas industry, said apart from clearing the debts owed ECG, the government also granted the sum of US$ 130 million to the power distribution company to purchase new operational equipment’s to replace the obsolete ones to enable it provide efficient, reliable and sustainable power.

He said the government’s action attests to the fact that there is a visionary and competent leader running the affairs of the country.

“I am telling you for a fact that the Akufo-Addo government has ‘killed Dumsor’ and totally eliminated it from our records. ECG has now been resourced heavily in financial terms. The company which struggled to survive under the NDC administration is now performing to expectation,” he said.

He further noted that the challenges of the energy sector are not about adding more kilowatts but rather ensuring efficiency and good management of what is already there.

He said the government has been able to renegotiate the pricing of gas from the country’s oil fields from $8.8 to $6.08 and reduced that of Jubilee Gas, in particular, from $3 to zero.

In addition, he indicated that losses in power distribution are also expected to reduce drastically through ensuring that the ECG and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) implement incentive-based loss reduction targets for all.

“Government has procured 12 million energy-saving bulbs to reduce the consumption of energy. The next four years of President Akufo-Addo’s administration will see a continuation of good governance, stable and ever improved power delivery that will sustain and promote economic growth. So we all must support the ‘4 More for Nana’ agenda,” he stated.
