A state-of-the-art hospital and diagnostic centre has been commissioned for residents of Dome in Accra.
The 60-bed capacity hospital which is being managed by Dr. Eli Atikpui, Former Executive Director of the Medical and Dental Council has going to be specialised in kidney Transplants and replacements.
The hospital, constructed by a Ghanaian business businessman named Christian Kpodo, will offer other services including delivering, consulting, diagnostic and laboratory services, radiological investigations, ultrasounds, MRS, a pharmacy, and mortuary services.
At the official opening in Accra, the founder of the hospital Christian Kpodo in an address said he was motivated to demolish his magnificent residential apartments and put up the hospital after he also experienced the ‘no bed syndrome’ years ago at the Korle- bu Teaching Hospital.
He said, with the intervention of a doctor, he was given a small place where he was treated and discharged but after witnessing how people slept on the floor to receive health care, he decided to construct a hospital to support the health care needs of Ghanaians.
“It took me five years to construct this hospital and the aim is to improve the health care needs of Ghanaians while helping to create jobs as well.
Adding he said, “government alone cannot do it and needed to be supported of Ghanaians so I call on other businessmen to consider investing into other sectors and to support government and create more jobs for the citizenry”
Mr. Kpodo continued that the hospital is going to be specialised in kidney-related cases including dialysis.
“We have funding to extend our service in kidney issues including dialysis to other regions so that kidney patients can also benefit.”
The Medical Director of the hospital Dr. Eli Atikpui in an address said the hospital has an ultra-modern delivery unit with six delivery suits, well-equipped consulting rooms, two theatres, well-equipped laboratory services, ultrasound scans, with the latest specks, and a mortuary with 130 capacity.
He said the hospital currently has a staff strength of 35 and it plans to increase it by 70 within the next three months.
