Venue For Asantehemaa’s Church Service Changed

The church service for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, will no longer take place at the St. Cyprians Anglican Church in Kumasi.

The church service for the queenmother was slated for Thursday by the burial planning committee.

The church service would now take place at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace on Thursday, the last day of the four-day burial rites.

The venue for the event was changed at the last-minute at the instance of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

An announcement to that effect was made on Monday and repeated on Tuesday at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace.

The mourners were entreated to throng the Manhyia Palace on Thursday for the church service for the queenmother.

The Asantehene realized that the church’s auditorium might not be able to accommodate the large number of mourners that would attend.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, top African monarchs and other dignitaries would grace the occasion.

Otumfuo took the decision to prevent congestion and ensure the comfort of the mourners.

The royals of the Asante Kingdom, including the Asantehene, worship with the Anglican Church in Kumasi.

Church service for deceased Asante monarchs are always held at the St. Cyprians Anglican Church in Kumasi.
