The Islamic Council for Development and Humanitarian Service (ICODEHS) in partnership with Alpha Radio last week donated 16 wheel chairs and assorted food items to some physically challenged persons in Kumasi .
Speaking during the presentation, the CEO of Alpha Radio, Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan, who is also the Founder of Alpha Ridwan Media Charity Foundation (NGO), said wealthy Muslims are enjoined to support the vulnerable and lessprivileged groups in society. This, he said, is a saying of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
He encouraged the physically challenged not to underrate themselves but strive very hard to live a dignified life.
He bemoaned the high number of beggars at various points in Kumasi, and called for collective efforts in stemming the eyesore.
Mr. Iddirisu Bako, who represented the Director of ICODEHS, said more of the wheel chairs are on their way to Kumasi for distribution.
The President of Persons with Disability in the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly (AMMA), Madam Emelia, thanked the donors on behalf of her colleagues and called for more support .
She said the state must implement the Disability Act passed by Parliament to make life bearable for them.
