The body of a 32-year-old woman who got drowned in the Densu River near the Ghana Water Company (GWC) Dam at Densuanu near Koforidua has still not been found seven days after the incident.
The lady, identified as Georgina Adobia a native of Bebia-ne-ha near Koforidua, was said to have slept on the narrow bridge over the river after getting drunk. Anytime she got drunk she would habitually sleep on the narrow bridge.
On September 26, last month, she fell off the bridge into the river just behind the GWC Dam.
The GWC Densuano Dam supplies water to the Koforidua Municipality.
Asante Daniel, Station Officer of GWC at the Densuano Water Station, said since the lady fell behind the dam, the company was forced to spill some of the water from the dam to support efforts to locate the body, but the body could not be found in the area.
He said he had therefore informed the GWC Dam managers at Weija and Nsawam to look out for anybody that would be washed by the water to their areas of operation.
Nana Kwame Nkansa, Odikro of Densuano, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has appealed to communities along the Densu River beyond the Densuanu Bridge to be on the lookout and inform the police if they should find anybody washed and carried to their community.
Nana Nkansa advised the youth to avoid the abuse of illicit drugs like Tramadol, Indian hemp, snuffing stuff and excessive intake of alcohol which made the lady fall into the river.
He also appealed for the expansion and construction of a better bridge over the dam to enable children cross over the river safely to school.
