THE SUNYANI Municipal Police in the Bono Region are investigating a 20-year-old lady, Eleana Zumeseh, for dumping her three months old male twins into a well at Zongo Abetifi in Sunyani, leading to their death.
The Sunyani Divisional Crime Officer, Supt Nana Kingsley Wiredu, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE but declined to go into the details, said the Public Relations Department of the Regional Police Command will make details available to the press after preliminary investigations.
DAILY GUIDE investigation, however, revealed that Eleana dumped her twins into the well at about 2am Tuesday.
According to a ‘pito’ brewer, with whom the suspect and her mother lived and worked, Eleana returned from Kumasi carrying the pregnancy, but did not disclose the man responsible for the pregnancy.
“She delivered preterm during the seventh month, and so was admitted to the Bono Regional Hospital, where the premature twins were kept in an incubator. They were discharged, and the children were doing well (sic),” the owner of the ‘pito’ bar told the paper, but would not reveal her identity.
“There is abundance of food in the house, so I don’t understand why she would do such a thing,” she lamented.
According to her, at about 1am on Tuesday, one of the children woke up to urinate and did not find the twins in the room in which all of them slept together.
Eleana pretended she was deeply asleep. The rest of the occupants woke her up and she fainted in surprise.
The madam continued, “We thought somebody had stolen them, so we started looking around for them with touch lights. When day finally broke, one of them wanted to fetch water from the well, which was when we discovered the three to four months old twins afloat in the well.
“We later suspected she dumped them into the well herself due to her queer demeanor.”
The police were then invited to the scene, and together with fire service personnel, retrieved the bodies. Eleana has since been arrested and is assisting in investigations.
