Woman In Court Over ‘Wee’ Drinks, Toffee

A 45-year-old businesswoman, Millicent Asamoah Ampofo, has been dragged before a Circuit Court in Accra for producing and selling drinks and toffees allegedly laced with substances suspected to be cannabis, known in local parlance as “wee”, at Taifa in Accra.

Her arrest followed an intelligence-led operation by officers from the Ghana Police Service during a raid at her drinking spot.

Court documents indicated that the accused told officers she produced and sold the drinks and toffees herself, with a bottle of sobolo selling for GH¢5, the mango drink priced at GH¢20, and one toffee costing GH¢5.

She has been provisionally charged with unlawful control of a narcotic drug, and her plea has been reserved by the court, presided over by His Honour Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah.

The seized items have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and report to aid the prosecution.

In the meantime, the court has granted her a bail of GH¢50,000 with one surety. The prosecution did not oppose the grant of bail but urged the court to impose conditions that will compel the accused to appear for the trial.

The prosecution was directed to file its disclosures and serve same on the accused for the commencement of the case.

Court documents indicate that Millicent Asamoah Ampofo was arrested on November 5, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at her drinking spot at Taifa.

The brief fact states that a search conducted on the premises revealed 47 plastic bottles of sobolo, 20 bottles of mango drink, 23 bottles containing unidentified liquid substances, and a blue mini drum filled with liquid.

The documents point out that the police also found two plastic containers of dried plant material, two rubber bags with powdery substances, and 180 pieces of hard brown toffees. The prosecution says all the seized items are suspected to contain cannabis.

Madam Ampofo reportedly claimed ownership of the products during interrogation and told police officers she got the supplies from a man who was only identified as Richard, who resides in Accra.

The police say efforts are underway to arrest the said Richard.
