Wontumi Instils Sense Into NDC’s Head Over Election Rigging Allegations

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has dismissed allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding election rigging.

This follows the NDC’s recent accusations that Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding Central Command of the Ghana Army, was tasked by President Nana Akufo-Addo to rig the 2024 elections in favour of the NPP.

Chairman Wontumi described the NDC’s claims as “infantile” and a desperate attempt to explain their anticipated election defeat.

He pointed out that the NDC is not vigorously campaigning in the Ashanti Region, instead relying on unfounded allegations to discredit the NPP.

*NPP’s Campaign Strategy*

The NPP has been working tirelessly, with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, having toured nearly all 276 constituencies across Ghana, with only two left to visit.

In contrast, former President John Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, has visited just 65 constituencies with only 16 days to the general elections.

*NDC’s Allegations*

The NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, called for the immediate removal of Brigadier General Michael Opoku, citing his history and alleged involvement in training NPP-aligned thugs.

Sammy Gyamfi warned that the NDC will monitor Opoku and his collaborators closely.

Wontumi Reaction

Chairman Wontumi reiterated his confidence in the NPP’s chances, attributing it to the party’s hard work and impactful policies.

He emphasized that the police and army are necessary only to maintain order and address potential violence from NDC members allegedly training under retired Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye.
