World Bank Reps Engage Editors On Air Pollution

A scene during the engagement

A World Bank Environmental Specialist yesterday led a discussion about the challenges facing air quality in the country and the need to address these.

Supporting in the discussion was a top official of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) who took a cross section of editors through the nuances of air pollution.

Ghana, he said, is doing well in the area of air quality management although there is still a lot to do in this regard.

He lamented the situation where equipment supplied the country for the monitoring of air quality are being stolen by unscrupulous persons.

Speaking on behalf of the World Bank, Justice Odoi an Environmental Specialist called on the media to set the agenda on issues bordering on air pollution across the country.

The editors took turns to tackle the subject and how in their view inroads can be made towards the achievement of the objective.

Central to the discussion was the final report on ‘Strengthening Air Quality Management In Accra’ authored by Justice Odoi and Gary Kleiman.

By the end of the discussion it became clear that air pollution is a clear danger to the health of citizens.

The fatalities associated with people inhaling smoke and other substances emanating from unhealthy human activities are not small, for which reason much more needs to be done to address the trend.
