Yagbonwura Receives Rousing Welcome In Damongo

Thousands of residents at Damongo in the newly created Savannah Region came out in their numbers to welcome the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa I, into the regional capital.

There was massive jubilation, drumming and dancing whilst ushering the overlord and other chiefs into Damongo when they returned from the Jubilee House after President Akufo-Addo declared Damongo as the regional capital for the newly created Savannah Region.

Residents in Damongo who spoke to DGN Online were optimistic that with the creation of the new region, there would be massive development which would create jobs and opportunities in the area for them.

Tumtumba Boresa I called on the people of the Gonjaland to support chiefs and other government appointees to develop the region.

He, however, cautioned the youth to desist from using unlawful means to register their displeasures, but rather use appropriate channels to resolve issues.

The overlord urged the security service to deal severely with any person or group of people who take the law into their own hands.

The overlord of the Gonjaland also praised President Akufo-Addo and his government for making Savannah Region a reality.

President Akufo-Addo declared Damongo as the regional capital for the newly created Savannah Region.

The announcement ceremony was held at the Jubilee House and heavily graced by political figures, traditional rulers and sons and daughters of the Gonjaland.

Meanwhile, the president has appointed Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed to act as the caretaker of the region until a substantive minister is appointed.
